OK To Travel would like to provide guidance on how to obtain a travel insurance quotation that includes cover for more serious medical conditions that go beyond our scope of cover.
If you meet the following criteria, this information may be relevant to you:
- You have been declined a quotation due to a medical condition
- Your policy has been cancelled due to a medical condition
- You have been offered an insurance policy with a medical condition excluded from cover
- You have been offered a policy with a load of more than £100 due to your pre-existing medical condition(s)
- Your insurer has not made the load for your pre-existing medical conditions clear
We would like to provide you with details of a ‘Medical Cover Firm Directory’, which is a publicly available directory that only lists firms that provide, or arrange, travel insurance policies that cover more serious medical conditions. This is a signposting requirement starting in April 2021. The directory will also show you enough information about each firm listed so you can make an informed initial choice about which provider might meet your needs. As we are a company that specialise in covering pre-existing conditions, you may see our name on the list.
The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) has launched a travel insurance directory on its Money Helper website for people with serious pre-existing medical conditions.
Consumer enquiries about the MaPS directory can be made to the Money Advice Service’s Customer Contact Centre which is available from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm: 0800 138 7777. Firms can contact the Directory Helpdesk by emailing: traveldirectory@maps.org.uk.
