Travel Insurance With Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Just Got Easier – And Cheaper

Good news for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions! We're making it simpler to declare your medical history when getting travel insurance - and you might save money too.

An Update on Medical Condition Declarations

We recently updated how we ask you about your pre-existing medical conditions when you are seeking a quote for travel insurance. Rather than asking about your entire medical history, our questions now focus on the last five years, making the process clearer and often easier for you to cover any pre-existing conditions.

When arranging a quote for travel insurance with medical conditions, you’ll now be asked straightforward questions about the past five years.

Why This Matters For Travellers with Medical Conditions

This change could make a real difference when getting travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions, particularly if you’ve had health issues in the past that are now well behind you. For example, if you had childhood asthma that you haven’t needed treatment for in years, or experienced depression over a decade ago that’s been successfully managed, you may no longer need to declare these as pre-existing conditions.

With fewer medical conditions to declare, many travellers will see lower prices on their policies. This is particularly good news if you’re considering annual multi-trip travel insurance with pre-existing medical conditions, the savings can really add up when you’re not paying additional premiums for historic conditions that no longer affect your health.

Of course, if you have ongoing pre-existing medical conditions that require medication or monitoring, such as controlled high blood pressure or diabetes that you manage daily, these will still need to be declared as they fall within the five-year window.

What If You Already Have Travel Insurance with Declared Medical Conditions?

If you’re adjusting an existing policy, any pre-existing conditions you previously declared will stay on your policy, even if they now fall outside the five-year period. This ensures you are suitably covered based on what you originally declared. When you next arrange travel insurance, you will be asked to respond as accurately as possible to the new questions.

Finding The Right Travel Insurance for Your Medical Conditions

Whatever your travel insurance needs, we have a full range of products for you to easily compare and we’re here to make sure you can focus on the exciting part: your trip!

These clearer medical screening questions mean faster quotes, less confusion about what pre-existing conditions to declare, more accurate cover for your medical needs, potentially lower premiums, and greater peace of mind.
