Specialist medical travel insurance designed for people with cancer conditions

Travel Insurance for People With Leukaemia

Getting medical travel insurance cover for your Leukaemia is the best way of protecting your finances should your existing condition cause any problems before or during your holiday. Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow, which occurs when immature white blood cells, known as blasts, are abnormally formed in huge numbers in the body. It is a treatable disease that usually involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy or bone marrow transplants.

In the three year period spanning 2015 to 2017, there was an estimated 10,000 new cases of leukaemia reported each year, averaging 28 diagnosed patients per day. We’ve insured hundreds of travellers over the past 10 years with a variety of leukaemia diagnosis, including chronic myeloid leukaemia and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Our specialist medical travel insurance is designed to give you protection on holiday and should cancer be the reason you have to cancel, receive unplanned hospital treatment or be repatriated back to the UK, you will be able to claim against unforeseen problems (subject to policy terms and conditions). We provide 24-hour emergency medical assistance, so no matter where you are, help is never far away. View our benefits page for a full overview of the cover provided.

Travel Insurance With Pre-Existing Cancer Conditions

We offer a choice of four different levels of cover with varying benefits, allowing you to select the most appropriate cover for your trip.

One factor which is consistent across all our policies is emergency medical expenses of up to £10,000,000. If you fall ill abroad due to your leukaemia you will be covered for any emergency treatment needed, including repatriation if you need to be brought home early. For full details of our cover please view our policy wording.

Our medical screening process considers how the cancer has been treated together with any on-going treatment. If you are receiving active treatment for your leukaemia, especially chemotherapy, it may affect your immune system making you more prone to infections which would be reflected in the premium.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions about travel insurance.

  • Do I still need specialist cover if I'm in remission?

Medical declarations will vary from insurer to insurer. The OK To Travel policy accounts for cancerous conditions on a lifetime basis, so we’ll still need to know about your cancer and this should be declared on your insurance quote. However, if you have been cancer free for some years and have not received any medication or treatment, your insurance premium will reflect this. By declaring your previous cancer condition, you’ll be protected if you were to have any complications related directly or indirectly to the previous diagnosis.

  • Do you cover cruises?

Yes! When you are arranging your travel insurance, you’ll be asked if you are cruising and cruise cover will be added to your quote to ensure you gain the additional benefits such as cabin confinement and missed departure. Often this is a requirement of cruise operators, something you may want to check.

  • Do you have any age limits?

OK To Travel provides a range of specialist travel insurance schemes, some of which do not operate any upper age limit on Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policies. Get a quote online today, or discuss your requirements with our customer care team, so we can propose suitable products for your age and needs.
